PHOTOS of Our Churches
Chillington: St James’ – on the ancient pilgrimage route to the
south coast and on the Santiago de Compostela (spelling???)
Barrington: The Blessed Virgin Mary – rare octagonal tower –
most complete yew arch in somerset – grave of one of Lord
Nelson’s lieutenants.
Cudworth: St Michael’s – you can’t help loving this rough
diamond among rural churches, part of which dates back to
Norman times; “elegant in it’s simplicity”.
Kingstone: St John and All Saints – big, square, stolid, permanent.
Built to last and by golly it will!
One of the friendliest churches in Somerset.
Dowlish Wake: St Andrew’s – a Victorian building with a Norman
tower on the site of a Saxon church; stands on a bluff of land
overlooking the village.
Shepton Beauchamp: St Michael and All Angels’;
formerly very high church in tradition and once
the centre of the Oxford Movement in Somerset;
now a very friendly village church.
Stocklinch: St Mary Magdalen – historically spelt without the last “e” in Magdalen. This is the Lower Church, one of two in the village.
